Boston icons 0.9 release
After some difficult and uncertain times due to pandemic, new Boston release is here. Version 0.9 is focused on design and technical improvements, continuing its own style and evolution with some additions and better coherence, demonstrating its lively character.Maybe for end users changes are minor, but for others should be a better support for working files and platforms like Windows systems. That decision was taken thinking about emulators like DOSBox, Wine or manage files in Windows partitions using a Linux system on same computer.
Google Docs and Google Drive icons are supported now if we manage them through Files/Nautilus (or another compatible file manager). This detail helps to keep the icon theme with coherence and no difference between local and cloud files. As always, all this will improve in the future to offer the better experience as possible.
Some apps includes now an icon, like Audacity — sorry, the official one doesn’t fit at the moment with current design standards, Adwaita or even Boston themselves — or the ePSXe emulator. About this one, some distros don’t detect automatically the ePSXe icon change and is necessary edit the file
/usr/share/applications/epsxe.desktop
Once open, we need to edit the line “Icon” to
Icon=epsxe
This time there’s no Boston Backgrounds big update. I’m working to improve existing ones, as well as a new distribution plan. This new distribution will try to keep the concept of collection, but allowing to obtain each wallpaper separately. Should be great for users — who downloads only the pieces they want — at the same time that it simplifies my work to release new creations or corrections. In addition, they will be offered now at ZIP format, which will open the possibilities to use them with other OS and devices. Stay tuned for changes.
Boston project maturity is beginning to be palpable after 2 years, paving the way for real version 1.0. Remember the idea of quality, not quantity.
