Boston Icons 0.4 release
Here we are again! This month there is a new version for Boston Icons, a release with some interesting new additions and corrections.
This version 0.4 is focused on improving production environments compatibility (introduced with previous version), like movies subtitles, JSON, MOBI eBooks, logfiles, languages, AppImage, Adobe Illustrator projects, Microsoft Access databases, security certificates, etc. Support for videogame ROMs and savefiles was added too. A lot of retro game platforms are supported using new icons and definitions, excellent for a better visual experience for our collections and being good companion for emulators and GNOME Games.
Some new icons was added too, like Snes 9x, PDF Arranger (a PDF Shuffle fork) and new symbolics. For these we can see, for example, a new icon for Firefox, support for Qt development suite and Lollypop music player. Some obsolete or useless icons were also deleted in order to keep a clean theme.
Boston icon theme package now offers some new colored folders as extra content. These are thought for personal (and testing) use because GNOME don’t support this option by default. The 8 colors included are black, brown, green, grey, orange, red, violet and yellow, respecting the color palette of the entire theme. Use it to be more organized for your most important folders, projects, etc. They are designed to make you more productive, not for to make a rainbow desktop. So, use it wisely. Be careful: assigned colored folder size don’t change with the file manager zoom. Also, colored folders will not change automatically if icon theme changes.
Boston Installer is a good new piece added to the package. This little bash script is intended to work as it best under GNOME desktop, performing an automatic installation of the icons for our user and settings up Boston as the default theme. Can be used under other desktop environments too, but the automatic configuration will be omitted.
How to use the installer:
- This bash script must be run into downloaded Boston Icons directory. Open a terminal on it.
- To give permissions:
chmod +x ./install.sh - Run with:
./install.sh - Double click can run it without command prompt, but this method doesn’t show any message.
